  • What is included in the standard studio hire?

    Your booking includes full use of the studio space, furniture (chairs, benches), fabric backdrops and white paper backdrop. Lighting equipment is available as an optional add-on.

  • Do I need to include setup and pack-down in my booking time?

    Yes, please. Your hire period includes setup, styling and pack-down. Studio sessions are often booked back to back and you must consider other creators. Additional time will be charged at £35 per hour.

  • Is the studio accessible?

    Thread Studio is located within Portview Trade Centre. There is lift access available, and we’ll happily advise on access details before your booking.

  • What happens if something gets damaged during my hire?

    Please report any accidental damage immediately. Repair or replacement costs will apply, especially for lighting or studio equipment.

  • Can I hire lighting equipment?

    Yes. We offer lighting with stands and modifiers for an additional hire fee. Lights must be used safely and returned in the same condition. Only for hire for professional use ie you must know what you are doing - optional assistant hire if required.

  • Can I bring my own equipment?

    You’re more than welcome to bring your own cameras, lighting, props or décor. Please make sure everything is used safely and doesn’t mark the walls or floors. If you’re bringing electrical items, they should be safe and ideally PAT tested.

  • Is the studio suitable for workshops or small events?

    The studio works well for workshops, small events, content days, meetings and more.

    Entertainment-based events (live music, performances, public entry) may require an Entertainment Licence - it’s simple to sort, and we can guide you if needed.

    For any event outside standard studio hire, you’ll need to arrange appropriate insurance.

  • Can I bring children or pets?

    Kids are welcome - just keep them supervised throughout your booking.No climbing on studio furniture or props, and please keep them within the studio - no wandering the hallways. Toilet trips must be with a responsible adult.

    Dogs are more than welcome too. They must be supervised, cleaned up after, and I fully expect a dog cuddle.

  • Can I view the studio before booking?

    Yes. Studio viewings are available by appointment. Just get in touch and we’ll arrange a time for you to see the space before you book.

  • Are There Places to Eat or Grab Coffee?

    Yes-there are several incredible food spots right here within Portview.

    You’ll find Flout Pizza, Bodega Bagels, Hi-Burger, and Street Food Atelier all on-site. Opening hours vary, so it’s worth checking their times during your session so you don’t miss out.

    If all else fails, Connswater Retail Park is just across the road with plenty of food and coffee options.

  • What else is around the area?

    Portview is home to a brilliant mix of independent creatives and small businesses. Within the building you’ll find: Monday’s Child, Storybox, Lines & Current and The Green East, all just a short walk inside the complex and perfect for browsing between or after sessions. Opening hours vary, so it’s worth checking ahead of your visit.

    Also located inside Portview is Boundary Brewing, ideal for a relaxed post-shoot pint in great company. A lovely way to wrap up a session at Thread Studio.

  • Public Transport Links

    Thread is based in 310 Newtownards Road in the Portview Trade Centre is really easy to reach by bus.

    Take the Glider G1 (East Belfast route) or Metro Bus route 3, both stop near Newtownards Road. 

    If you’re coming from the city centre, you’ll find convenient stops just a short walk from the studio entrance.
